Leticia, my family and I have not had any interaction with anyone with Down Syndrome. However, since meeting you in the blogosphere, I have become more protective of people with Down S. especially children.
Yesterday at Mass, a woman and her adult son sat in front of us. The young man has Down Syndrome. The first thing I noticed was with how much affection he greeted Fr. R. and visa versa. Then I was touched by the obvious affection and love between the mother and child. They were lovingly playful with each other. Then when it came time for the sign of peace, I reached out to him but he pulled away. His mother told him I was trying to shake his hands. He turned to my DH and shook his hand and then smiled and shook my hand.
Thank you for sharing the story of your little girl. It really has made a difference in my life.

Thank you Esther, you have pinpointed my reason for blogging; to raise awareness of what gifts our children are. You already have a beautiful heart and a lively faith, planting a seed in such fertile ground couldn't help bearing fruit!
Now let's pray that Sarah Palin gets in and gives families like mine a 'friend in the White House'.
